Calling All SuperArtists!!!
This challenge is inspired by the upcoming launch of Constellation, a transformative public art project created by artist Melissa McGill. Melissa is the first recipient of the L&L Fund Master SuperArtist grant.
For Melissa's art installation located on a small island in NY’s Hudson River, starry lights will emerge one by one over the Bannerman castle ruin creating a new constellation in the sky.
Your SuperArtist challenge is to create your own constellation using a collected set of objects, chalk and, most importantly, your imagination. Just to refresh -- a constellation is a group of stars that make an imaginary shape in the night sky, like a lion, bear or dog. Let’s turn this challenge into a summer sidewalk game, best to be played with a sibling, friend, parent or other family member!
To Begin —
Gather up some objects like rocks/shells/acorns/berries that will represent the stars in your constellations.
You'll use your collected objects (“stars”) and chalk for this challenge. Toss 8-12 rocks (“stars") onto the sidewalk or the wet sand at the beach. Stare at your “stars" long enough until they begin to form an imaginary picture — this would be your sidewalk constellation in the making! If you must, slightly rearrange your “stars” to help yourself envision your constellation! Next, use chalk (or a finger for the sand) to connect your “stars”. Collaborate with your partner by guessing each others constellations and naming them!
Snap a photo of your constellation and post to our SA gallery @lululeofund on Instagram.*
