Challenge #33 -- SuperArtist Selfie
Calling All SuperArtists!!! Love them or hate them, this challenge is inspired by the infamous selfie! The good news for this challenge is that a selfie stick is not required! What is necessary is the use of your own intuition (that’s SuperArtist Principle #7). Your SuperArtist challenge is to do a blind contour selfie. A blind contour drawing is a drawing exercise where you draw something without looking at the paper. This way, you can draw using your intuition and without thinking too much!!! To Begin — Take a look at this short clip demonstrating blind contour drawing — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvC7c5pvHrA. Start with a few practice drawings of simple objects like a key, fork or scissors using your finger (aka your invisible pencil) in the air. Materials — Four materials will be needed for this selfie challenge — a sharp pencil, a paper plate, a mirror and a piece of paper. To ensure that you don’t peek while drawing, poke a sharp pencil through the middle of your paper plate (see example).
Looking straight ahead works too if you can resist the temptation to look down at your paper. Sit comfortably in front of a mirror (or use a recent photo of yourself, or your phone or computer's webcam) to guide you as you blindly draw your selfie on your paper. Your eyes may end up in your mouth and your nose in your ears in this selfie, but this is the beauty of a blind contour drawing -- it's not about looking realistic. It's about reflecting your intuitive ability! Be proud to post this selfie, SuperArtist!!! Post a photo of your blind contour selfie to our SA gallery @lululeofund on Instagram.*
